1. Finding and Choosing a Template

2. Access and Understand the Template

  • Open the Template:

Open the template file downloaded by going to File > Open. Generally, Photoshop supports PSD or Photoshop Document template files.

  • Get Familiar with the Layers:

Most templates have set up layers and layer groups; open the Layers panel via Window > Layers to see.

  • Check Layer Comps (if available):

3. The Template Processing

  • Text Editing:

Replace Images

4. Refining Your Design

  • Review and Edit:

Alignment check: Make sure everything is on an even keel from text and images.

  • Apply Layer Styles:

Bring effects to elements by adding drop shadows, strokes, and glows with Layer Styles, by double-clicking the layer or right-clicking and accessing Blending Options.

  • Flatten or Merge Layers (if necessary):

To create a final output you may want to flatten the image to decrease file size - Layer>Flatten Image, or merge selected layers - Layer>Merge Layers. 5. Saving and Exporting Save Your Work: Save an active file as a PSD to retain your layers via File > Save As. Export for Print or Web: For Print: Save as TIFF or PDF under File > Export > Export As or File > Save As. For Web: Export as JPEG or PNG using the same Export options but with settings adjusted for optimization in the web. Tips for Using the Templates: Save Original Template: One should always save one as the original template, for later use in case one needs to start afresh or make further changes. Smart Object Editing: When a template supports Smart Objects, you can edit contents without losing quality simply by double-clicking on them.
